         Spouse: Louis "Lewis" /BURRELL/ (1786-1872)
Marr: Jan 1817 - Goshen Hill, Union, South Carolina

General Notes: Husband - Randolph Randel /JENKINS/

He supposedly had a second wife---at least according to the main Darby book, but Deborah was alive when Josias made his will Sept 3, 1821---Randolph's will was signed May 11, 1823 and proved May 8, 1824. Unless the 5 children supposedly by another wife were 2 sets of twins and one single birth it is just impossible---So are Mary, Nancy, Emily, Charles and Nathaniel Deborah's children?

Will on file signed May 11, 1823, proven May 8, 1824 in Union Co, SC children listed by his first wife, Deborah and also 5 children listed by his 2nd wife. Also leaves bed and furniture to a Vashti (Darby Book spells it Vasthi but I cannot find anyone with such a spelling) Darby and is assumed to be Elizabeth, Deborah's sister's, out of wedlock daughter who was living with Deborah after her mother died.

From Burel book:
In 1832, Randolph wrote in his will..."John Burel to live where he now lives for five years from the time he went there to live he is to cultivate and clear as much land as he pleases in the coarse of five years but not to rent or lease it to no person I do not nominate." In 1829 Randolph Jenkins, son o fthe above mentioned Randolph, was appointed to administer the estate of John Burel.

General Notes: Wife - Deborah /DARBY/

Listed in her father's will and also her husband Randolph Jenkins as receiving the lands he resides on and the plantation with all its appurtenances containing all my lands, that lie between Charles Jenkins line and the 96 road and along Daniel Lipham's line west to teh Charleston Road, then down teh said road as it now runs below all my fields on the south and south west of said road until it strikes a line lately run between teh said tract whereon I now live above devised and thetrct of land on which my son Benjamin now lives then along the said line and lines lately run as aforesaid to the said Charles Jenkins line.

General Notes: Child - Samuel /JENKINS/ (Jinkins)

Sources for Samuel are Wylodean Burrell Edwards and Nita Pumphrey (she is source on Deborah Amanda Jenkins--no one else knew of her): Census records and the Attala County Cemetery Book.

Samuel Jinkins was born Nov 5th AD 1789
Sarah Catherine Jinkins was born Febr 26th 1797. (It is possible the year could be 1787, ink is bad)
Ephriam Jefferson Jinkins was born May 14th 1812.
John James Jinkins was born Aoril 5th 1827
William Jinkins was born Feb the 24th 1839
Owen Selvy Jinkins was born Mary the 13 1837
Richard White Jinkins was born March 6th 1848
Sarah Catherine Jinkins was born July 16th 1846
Nancy Ann Bunch was born Jul 29th 1859

Notice differences in years of birth. Death of some children may have been possible.

Peggy Jinkins died May 7th 1860 aged 25 years
Samuel Joseph Jinkins died Aug 17th 1862 aged 19 years

Listed as Samuel Jinkins heirs in land sale (quick claim deed) to John James Jinkins after Samuel's death:
Deby A Burden, EEPH Jinkins, Annie Burell, Druscilla Mitchell, Mary Burell, Nancy Jinkins, Elizabeth Jinkins wife of Owen Selvy Jinkins (deceased), William Burden for Julia A Jinkins and Nancy A Jinkins (These may be John James and Isbella's children? Would have to go back and ck the census records) John James Jinkins January 1873

1850 Attala Co MS Census (no Nancy present on this census)
1860 Attala Co MS Census (Nancy age 40 present on this census. She's nearly same age as Sam's daughterElizabeth. So she's either a wife or daughter-in-law or very well could be a daughter who's spouse died and she moved back in. It is unclear.)

General Notes: Child - Druscilla /JENKINS/

She is not listed in her father's will---is she dead or did she have
another name.

She is not listed in her father's will---is she dead or did she have
anothername.

General Notes: Child - Randolph Randel /JENKINS/ Jr.

He administered John Burel's estate in 1829. The source on Randolph says he was James Randolph--it was posted on Genforum and source has not responded to my inquires, but the information is found in the Burel-Burrel-Burrell book in conjunctionwith Bertrand Paquat.

1830 SC Census

General Notes: Child - Josias /JENKINS/

He's not listed in his father's will--has he died or was Josias a middle
name

General Notes: Child - Sarah Margaret /JENKINS/

She's not listed in her father's will--every source on her husband say
that Randolph was her father.

(Vol 1 & 2 St Francis County, Arkansas Cemetery Records by Kathleen Bell, Copyright 1988, Call No's ARK 929.5 Sa 2 C88-4673 & C88-2263). The only cemetery in St Francis County listing Darbys is the Posey Cemetery located 3 miles North of Wheatley, AR. According to Doris (Long) Lindsey, who was told this by her mother, Elma (Darby) Long, Richard Allen is buried in a small cemetery, identified as 'Phillips' by Joe Long who used to live adjacent to it, located 6.7 miles south of Wheatley (Hwy 70) on west side of Ark. Highway 78 in a grove of trees, opposite intersection of Lee County Rd 929 that leads to Uncle Buck's/Aunt Elma's home-place. Map, Lee County, does reveal symbol for cemetery, just south of Ark 78, Lee Cty 929 road intersection. (Lyle & Harry Darby visited this one acre, overgrown, apparently abandoned cemetery, Sep. 16, 1998 and found 7 grave markers (Kate Campbell - Dec 16, 1871 - Dec 7, 1954; George Campbell - Aug 2, 1875 - Nov 8, 1929; Sarah - Wife of John Phillips & Daughter of S.R. Charlie Lindsey, on Nov 20, 1998, said two of the Darby women from tne hills, possibly Russellville, used to visit this cemetery every year or two. Said their names were 'Della' and 'Etta'. Della and Etta are named in RA's will; further two of RA's and Dorothy Ann's daughters were Elizabeth Della, b. Nov 1875 and Lucy Etta, b. Apr 5, 1879. Charlie was born in 1920 so this probably occurred in late 1920s to late 1930s. Charlie further stated he helped his step-father, Fred C. Darby, RA's youngest son, clean that cemetery several times during those years and had seen a wooden marker he thought was RA's. Somehow the Darbys of Maryland had to meet the Jenkins of Virginia. I have run across a source that says the Darbys may have moved to Virginia for a time--so where was Drusilla from--most info on the Darbys comes from Ancestors and Descendants of Joseph Darby of Maryland by Rufus M. Darby (pub 1953). There has been some new stuff but still most rely heavily on Rufus. -Unknown source from ancestry.com

Josiah Darby is listed in the DAR Patriot Index as a Revolutionary War soldier. Josiah Darby's will is in Will Book B, page 67, Box 11, Package 18, recorded 3rd day Sept 1821. Found in All About Darbys by Rodney H. Darby of Rockville Md, found in DAR Library, Washington DC. - Rufus M Darby's Book of Darby Family 1953

His children might have been born in Union, SC, but conflicting sources on that once again. Plus the childrens birth years are conflicted. - Carla Goodloe

1800 Union, SC Census listed near Daniel Lipham, his grandfather.

Darby book states that family tradition indicates a movement of Darbys, Fowlers, Paulks, and Robinsons to Wayne Co, TN near the Alabama border in early 1800.

State of Alabama County of Alabama On this 17th day of April, A.D., One Thousand eight hundred and Fifty-one, personally appeared before me a Justice of the peace within and for the state aforesaid, PHILIP DARBY in State of Alabama, who being first duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical Philip Darby, who was a private in the company commanded by Capt. Early Benson in the first regiment of Tennessee Militia, commanded by Col. Napiers, in the War with Great Britain, declared by United States on the 18th day of June, A.D. 1812. That he was drafted sometime in the month of February and was mustered into service at Fayetteville, Tennessee, some few days after he was drafted for the term of three months---and was honorably discharged at Fayetteville, Lincoln Co., and said Phlip Darby here adds, that he is not positive whether it was in the year 1813 or in the year 1814 that he was engaged in said military service as will appear by the muster rolls of said Company. And said Philip Darby further declares that he does not now remember what became of his discharge. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land in which he may be entitled under the "act granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers of the United States" passed September 28, 1850. his Wm. B. Littleton Philip (X) Darby mark Sworn to and subscribed before me the day and year above written. And I hereby certify, and I believe that said Philip Darby to be the identical man who served as aforesaid, and that he is of the aobove stated. A. A. Westmoreland Justice of the Peace State of Alabama County of Lauderdale I, Wiley T. Hawkins, Judge of the court of probate, within and for the county and state aforesaid, and an office clerk and keeper of the seal of said court, do hereby certify that before whom the foregoing declaration and affidavit of Philip Darby was made, is and was at the time of subscribing to the same, a Justice of the Peace within and for said county duly commissioned and qualified. I testimony of which I hereunto subscribe my name and affix the seal of said at Florence, Alabama, the 18th day of April A.D. W.T. HAWKINS Act. 120 Acres, Dec. 19, 1856 PROBATE JUDGE

General Notes: Child - Elizabeth /DARBY/

One source says she's Vashti's mother ---another source I beleive the Rufus Darby book indicates that Vashti is Deborah's daughter--that source says Elizabeth was married to Burrell Craddock and died in 1838---the one that says she was Vashti's mother, says Ellizabeth died 1820---which ever the case was---Vashti lived with Deborah and her husband. It seems that the Elizabeth who married Burrell Craddock had to be daughter of one of this Elizabeth's brothers--or at least another line of Darbys that went to Lauderdale County, Alabama. It's a pretty good case against Elizabeth being alive after 1820--she is not mentioned in her father's will.

Have more children listed for him but the movement from South Carolina to Alabama to Tennessee is questionable enough to question the accuracy of my source. -unknown source

1800 Union, SC Census listed near Daniel Lipham, his grandfather.

Darby book states that family tradition indicates a movement of Darbys, Fowlers, Paulks, and Robinsons to Wayne Co, TN near the Alabama border in early 1800.

General Notes: Child - Elizabeth /DARBY/

1830 census aged 20-30.

Spouse is unconfirmed. The Darby Book states she married Jonathan Paulk not Burrell Craddock and Darby book also states that Elizabeth sister of Philip, this Elizabeth's father, was married to Burrell Craddock but we have no confirmation at all that she was because Vashti lived with Deborah's family. However if they wanted to cover up that Elizabeth had a baby out of wedlock, she could very well have given Vashti to Deborah to cover that up. Unknown at this time. -Carla Goodloe May 2006

Note:
May just add to the confusion, but -- "Roberson-Haynes-Darby Genealogy" by Phillip Isham Roberson, 1984, states, "Martha Ann Craddock was the daughter of Burrell Craddock & Elizabeth Darby Craddock who married 22 September 1822. Elizabeth Darby Craddock was the daughter of Philip Darby, born 1775 Maryland and Nancy Davis - born SC. Elizabeth Darby was born 6 April 1805 SC. After her husband Burrell Craddock died in the 1830s and Nig Roberson's wife Rachel died in 1839, Nig Roberson & Elizabeth Darby Craddock married the 11th day February 1840, Lauderdale County, Alabama. The Rites of Matrimony were performed by T. M. Phillips, Justice of the Peace, recorded the 7th of may 1840."
Sept 1822, in fact both marriages are listed in the marriages of Lauderdale County, Alabama, now in the Darby book written by R. C. Darby and published by his son, Rufus M. Darby, they have Elizabeth Darby - born April 6 or 16 1805 as marrying Jonathan Paulk. She is listed in Philip Darby's family, but in Josiah Darby's family (Philip's father) they have Elizabeth Darby (no birthday) marrying Burrell Craddock and gives her children, Martha, Frances, James, Samuel, Richard & Vashti Craddock; this Elizabeth would have been born ca 1780-82 and married before 1820, because Josiah made his will and named Elizabeth and her daughter, Vashhti in his will, whereas Elizabeth did not marry Burrell Craddock until 1822 in Lauderdale Co., Ala. Some of the Darby researchers think that maybePhillip Darby had twins and named one Eliabeth & the other Betsy."
